Beginning in the early 1980s, the University of Miami became the brash face of a new generation in football. In 1994, a loss to the Washington Huskies dealt the program a blow from which it may have never truly recovered.
Something else I remember about the "Whammy in Miami" was that, growing up in CT we had to watch it since it was a regional broadcast (Big East, I guess). I was mad that we didn't get to watch Colorado/Michigan instead, and we all know how that game ended.

That's such a great note because I also got Michigan-Colorado and THAT pass is burned in my brain forever.
