Welcome to the penultimate regular-season Saturday of the FBS season, the last week of the FCS regular season, and the 1st Round of the Div. II Playoffs.
Yours truly is absolutely knocked for a loop by the flu; around 9 p.m. last night, I just started shivering uncontrollably and I woke up with horrible joint pain. This week’s far too important to miss, however. I’m taking inspiration from Michael Jordan’s flu game.
I'm caping hard for the Horned Frogs. I've always been a homer for Sonny; he had Arizona on the cusp of making the Rose Bowl back in the late 2000s, and was awesome at La. Tech and SMU.
Appreciate you! In a possibly ironic twist, this is the first I've been with ANYTHING since the outset of the pandemic, and doubly ironic that it's not with the 'VID.
Based on empirical evidence, I've deduced there isn't a more awful experience in sports than being a Tennessee Vols fan. Miserable and belligerent when they lose, miserable and belligerent when they win.
Aggies are in hell right now, but man, I don't think I've ever seen an angrier bunch of babies during a historic season than Vols people. I've witnessed a not-insignificant amount of Tennessee fans whining about Peyton Manning not winning the Heisman 25 years ago!
Of note on today's schedule: Jackson State can move to 11-0. Of course, its 5-5 opponent makes for the third-best overall record COACH PRIME has seen this season. I continue to be absolutely gobsmacked at how desperate national CFB media is to make him a Power 5 candidate.
Jaden Shirden of Monmouth has 91 yards and a touchdown on six carries lol. He won't win it, but he absolutely deserves to be a finalist for the Walter Payton Award.
Richmond on the board first, but can't convert starting field position near the 50 into a touchdown; 3-0 Spiders. UR went without an offensive touchdown in last week's win at Delaware.
Oh, and for anyone stopping in: Let me know what game you're currently watching plus channel/streaming service, as well as the game of the day you're most excited to watch.
Both for me is Richmond-William & Mary for no worse than a share of the CAA championship (and, I'd have to assume, a 1st Round bye when the FCS Playoffs bracket is released tomorrow.
Another interesting matchup in the noon ET window: St. Thomas can complete a perfect season in the Pioneer League. The Tommies are ineligible for the FCS Playoffs due to the NCAA's rules about program's transitioning divisions, but what a statement from the very-recently D-III that was literally booted from its conference for being too dominant.
Baylor goes conservative with playcalling and winds up 3 and out. TCU will get the ball back with 1:48 to go and no timeouts. Only need a field goal to win.
Navy driving and killing clock at the same time. Navy RB just slid down with a first down. 2 minutes remaining up 3 at the UCF 33. Knights have 2 timeouts left.
After the punt, Baylor marched down the field and threw a red zone interception with :05 left. 14-14 tie at halftime with TCU getting the ball first coming out.
I'm hoping for a Navy win. Aside from typically rooting for them (my granddad was in the Navy during WWII), think the Mids beating a Top 25 team would bolster Delaware's at-large Playoffs resume.
After the FG miss and a long shot to Quentin Johnson, Max Duggan punches it in to tie the game in Waco.

Feel better, Kyle

I've never liked Peter Burns so maybe I'm biased, but holy cow this is one of the most rotten things I've seen someone say during football coverage.. https://twitter.com/CorkGaines/status/1594043459698139136?s=20&t=Kyisp5S4YlNRJ6SnZ31F3g
Richmond with a gutsy touchdown drive, pulling within 11 points of William & Mary heading into the fourth quarter. This one should be a great finish.

TAMU Aggie fans would like a word...

Saw the Michigan score. The Office making the phone call to the officials to do what needs to be done.
Going to be a crackdown on Illinois holding in the second half.

Plans for today:
On the early kickoff of Navy/UCF on ESPN2 with an eye on TCU/Baylor
Midday: Ohio State/Maryland (because of the wife) and GT/UNC with an eye on Brawl of the Wild.
Early evening: USC/UCLA with an eye on Ole Miss/Arkansas and Bedlam
After Dark: Utah/Oregon and UNLV/Hawai'i
Another interesting matchup in the noon ET window: St. Thomas can complete a perfect season in the Pioneer League. TCU with a scramble drill field goal to win the game. Amazing.
Baylor goes conservative with playcalling and winds up 3 and out. TCU will get the ball back with 1:48 to go and no timeouts. Only need a field goal to win.
TCU scored to pull within 2 but drop the 2 point conversion attempt. Down 2 with 2:07 to play but they have all three timeouts left.
TCU coverage bust leads to a big play and an eventual score by Baylor. Bears up 8.
TCU scores to take a lead, but misses the extra point. 20-14 Frogs.
Well the good news is a missed PAT has never come back to haunt a team!
UCF has called their final timeout with 1:21 left to go. Midshipmen have a second and 8 deep in UCF territory. This one is basically over.
Navy driving and killing clock at the same time. Navy RB just slid down with a first down. 2 minutes remaining up 3 at the UCF 33. Knights have 2 timeouts left.
Navy with a HUGE 4th down stop with UCF just over midfield. Midshipmen take over with 5:54 to go in game up 3
After the punt, Baylor marched down the field and threw a red zone interception with :05 left. 14-14 tie at halftime with TCU getting the ball first coming out.
4th and 9 from the Baylor 37...and TCU punted. 😑
Baylor fails to convert a 4th and 1 in no-mans land in plus territory. TCU takes over in a 14-14 tie with 3 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter.
Second Baylor drive stalls and a FG attempt comes up short. It was online, but he didn't put enough behind it so it's still 7-0 Bears.
Baylor on the board first running right through the Frogs. Navy also scores on one of their classic 13 play, 80+ yard drives to go up 8 over UCF.
I'm hoping for a Navy win. Aside from typically rooting for them (my granddad was in the Navy during WWII), think the Mids beating a Top 25 team would bolster Delaware's at-large Playoffs resume.
