Introducing The Press Break Book Club
Join The Press Break Book Club and participate in group chats, enjoy exclusive content, and more. The first edition takes a look at baseball's unprecedented 1981 season.
Odds are that if you’re reading The Press Break — and thank you for that! — you enjoy reading about sports. It should go without saying that my interest in writing about sports stems from a love of reading about sports.
Sports and American history are two of my passions, and the primary influences of this newsletter. And, to that end, there is little I enjoy more than reading in-depth nonfiction where these interests intersect. I’d love to share more about the books I read, so with that in mind, I’m pleased to announce The Press Break Book Club.
Subscribers are invited to read along with a sports-themed book selection and join in weekly chats here on The Press Break.
The first selection of The Press Break Book Club is Split Season - 1981: Fernandomania, The Bronx Zoo and The Strike That Saved Baseball by Jeff Katz.
With the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees having met in the most recent World Series, their first Fall Classic matchup since 1981, it seems an appropriate choice.
The modern-day parallels don’t end there, though: The societal themes of economic turmoil, labor strife and the looming presence of a new presidential administration impacting the situation are relevant to 2024.
The initial chat will be Friday, Dec. 6. I look forward to discussing Split Season with you!
