Check Out Beach Break, A San Diego-Focused Sports Newsletter
SAN DIEGO. DO. YOU. HEAR. ME?
Otay Mesa to Oceanside! Imperial County to Imperial Beach! El Cajon, Encinitas, Escondido: Anywhere in and around San Diego, this is YOUR NEWSLETTER.
For the initiated, you no doubt recognize the above in the voice of longtime San Diego sports radio figure Lee “Hacksaw” Hamilton. And, if you fall in this category, you are the prime audience for Beach Break: A San Diego Sports Newsletter.
But even if you don’t fall in this category, allow me to introduce a publication focused exclusively on sports in the San Diego area and provide some insight on what to expect.
I have been a San Diego County resident for almost my entire post-college life. In that time, I have both attended and covered some memorable moments across a broad and diverse spectrum of sports for outlets including the San Diego Union-Tribune, ESPN.com and more.

Former La Costa Canyon star shines at Duke; is NFL next? (Union-Tribune)

San Diego State is college realignment’s next frontier (AwfulAnnouncing.com)
San Diego has only one of the Big Four professional league franchises, but that actually makes the sports scene that much more interesting and unique. College basketball is booming here, with both 2023 national runner-up San Diego State a consistent fixture in March Madness and UCSD on a meteoric rise.
The county loves soccer, making this a booming hotbed for both the men’s and women’s game. Local high schools have and continue to produce some of the nation’s top football recruits. There’s no shortage of fascinating stories, past, present and future.
Rather than inundate the general-interest theme here at The Press Break with disproportionate focus on San Diego, I opted to launch a newsletter dedicated exclusively to my city.
If you are are already a paid subscriber to The Press Break, you will receive Beach Break at no additional charge. This is an ongoing perk for future paid subscribers, if you are considering upgrading.
Beach Break’s first post, examining Dave Winfield’s college basketball exploits and the San Diego pro hoops franchise that wanted to make the MLB Hall of Famer its face, is published.
Check it out and consider becoming a subscriber. Even if you reside beyond Otay Mesa or Oceanside, Imperial County or Imperial Beach, to paraphrase Hacksaw: It’s your damn newsletter! You take control!
